bottlers note: This new release of Sherry Cask Malt is one of the most balanced ever. The fruity notes of apricots and peaches are enhanced by just the right amount of dry winey character, and the overall style is sweet, honeyed, but not cloying: it is robust in flavour, but agile in body, with a crisp leanness that ensures great drinkability and freshness. Extremely fragrant, flowery, loaded with spring flavours and a faint organic note, it’s a young malt that also has a spicy and mineral backbone that leaves the palate dry and clean. The subtlety, complexity and timeless charm of sherry cask maturation applied with a light and never overwhelming hand to a young malt never fail to fascinate.
"In one of the classic whisky-making regions of Scotland, the barley fields and heather covered hills of Speyside in the Eastern Highlands, many particular styles have evolved through the decades. Flowery, delicate, malty, honeyed and fruity whiskies come from this region, but perhaps the most loved style is the one of whiskies entirely matured in Spanish casks that have previously contained sherry.
Lush, chewy, winey, nutty and fruity, malts matured in first fill sherry cask often show tremendous maturity, flavour richness and complexity already from a young age, due to the special quality of this kind of unique (and in recent years scarcely available) casks. Sherry casks have a special influence on giving and extra boost to maturation, imparting also some of the qualities and character of the wine that they previously held.
This single malt whisky had been aged in first fill sherry oak casks for seven years, and has been selected by the Distillery Manager for its perfect balance of maturity, flavour intensity and liveliness. It has all the fruity, nutty and fragrant qualities a connoisseur expects from a sherry cask malt made in the traditional way. Unchillfiltered, to preserve all the natural flavours."
